RULES FOR THE KARAOKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
1. Participants in the Karaoke World Championships (KWC) must be 18 years of age or older.
2. The Championship was created for non-professional competitors. As non- professionals, it is understood that the competitor is not currently engaged in professional, for-profit activities as a singer. Additionally, the contestant cannot have the profession of singer listed as his/her professional occupation, has no official recording contract with a record company, or is not making any profit from professional singing activities.
A written certificate regarding each participant's professional activities must be sent to the Organizing Committee no later than one month prior to the Championship.
3. Before taking part in the KWC, contestants will go through the official selection competitions in their native countries. Candidates of countries that did not hold such local competitions, will be considered on an individual basis.
4. Men and women are rated in different categories.
5. Songs may be performed in different languages and may be performed using a contestant's own personal audio device. Contestants will present five songs. Only the following formats are approved: original DVD, Laserdisc, VCD and CD+G, including words.
Submissions will not be accepted if they are not professionally produced and not compiled (five songs) on one disc, DVD, etc.
The following information should be presented to the KWC Organizing Committee no later than one month before the beginning of the Championship.
1) Songs - name, duration, version of the song;
2) Disc information - format; will participants be using their own audio devises or use those provided by the KWC; Participants using their own audio devises should provide written confirmation of authenticity of the presented works for the Championships' submissions.
6. The KWC Champions may not take part in the next year's event as contestants.
7. KWC's international jury consists of five members, from the worlds of musicians/professionals and representatives of the participating countries of the KWC.
8. The Championship's performances are evaluating by five different criteria. The contestants are marked on the following criteria:
1) Voice and sound quality; (the quality and individual characteristics of the voice)
2) Rhythm and tempo; (the voice as it relates to its accompaniment)
3) The Expressiveness of the voice; (how well the performer conveys the meaning and mood of the song)
4) Theatrical image/charisma; (stage performance)
5) Audience reaction. (reaction of public and judges)
9. The contestant must be a citizen of his/her represented country.
10. The Organizing Committee has the right to disqualify any contestant for any improper or inappropriate behavior during the performance that would discredit the KWC Organizers.
11. The Organizing Committee has the right to disqualify any contestant who does not comply to the aforementioned conditions. The Official Partner of the KWC will name at least one contestant (preferably two: one male and one female - the approved maximum number.) The KWC Winners (first, second and third places) will be awarded with monetary prizes.
